Position Overview:
DJM Community Outreach is seeking dedicated and motivated individuals to serve as Youth Mentors who are passionate about empowering youth and creating safe, supportive spaces for personal and social development. This role focuses on mentoring young people ages 11–24, guiding them through life challenges, supporting academic and career goals, and fostering emotional well-being. Youth Mentors will play a key role in cultivating leadership, accountability, and resilience among youth participants.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain meaningful, trusting relationships with youth through one-on-one and group mentorship.
Facilitate workshops and structured activities focused on life skills, career exploration, goal setting, and personal development.
Serve as a consistent and positive role model, encouraging responsible decision-making and self-awareness.
Collaborate with staff to plan and implement community events, enrichment activities, and outreach initiatives.
Support youth in setting personal and educational goals and monitor their progress over time.
Address behavioral or emotional challenges with patience and compassion, providing guidance and referrals when needed.
Maintain accurate documentation of participant engagement, progress notes, and attendance records.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant coursework or degree in youth development, education, social work, or related field preferred.
Previous experience mentoring or working with youth, especially in underserved or high-risk communities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and motivate youth.
Strong sense of empathy, cultural sensitivity, and emotional intelligence.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
Must pass a background check and meet DJM Community Outreach’s safety and ethical standards.
Work Setting:
Services may be delivered in a combination of community centers, schools, recreational facilities, and field-based settings.
Some local travel may be required to attend community events or conduct outreach.
